INTERMENT
St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery
Whittemore, Iowa

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to the Palo Alto County Hospital Health Foundation.

Alice May Gunderson, daughter of Herman and Amanda (Rusch) Zumach, was born May 11, 1927, in Whittemore, Iowa. She received her education in Whittemore, graduating from Whittemore High School in 1945.

On March 27, 1949 Alice was united in marriage to Donald Gunderson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Whittemore. To this union four children were born.

Alice and Donald made their home on their farm near Cylinder, which is a Century Farm. Alice worked at Zumach Grocery Store in Whittemore and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

Alice was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Joy Circle in Whittemore. In earlier years she was active in the Compassionate Friends organization.

Alice enjoyed bowling and was on a bowling league for many years. She liked playing cards, especially Phase 10 with her grandchildren and 500 with others. Alice was a stamp and coin collector and enjoyed doing jigsaw and word puzzles. Alice's family was very important to her and she looked forward to family reunions. She did a lot of genealogical research on her family and will certainly be remembered for all of the cards that she sent for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special events. She loved following all of her grandchildren's school activities.

After leaving the farm, Alice moved into Emmetsburg where she lived in her home until moving into PARC Hall.

Alice passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Amanda Zumach; her husband, Donald; her son, Neal Gunderson; and two brothers, Herbert and Norbert Zumach.

She is survived by her children, Jay (Roslyn) Gunderson of Ringsted, Iowa, Dean (Kathy) Gunderson of Cylinder, Iowa and Mark (Teresa) Gunderson of Orange City, Iowa; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
