Allen Emil Hockett, son of Albert and Hazel (Grover) Hockett, was born March 27, 1939, in Gillett Grove, Iowa. Starting in his youth, he was a hard worker his whole life. At age 13 he began working as a farm hand, living on the farm where he was working. He received his education in Graettinger, Iowa, attending Graettinger Community School.
On October 24, 1959, Allen was united in marriage to Delores Kooker at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. They were blessed with two sons.
Following high school, Allen served in the United States Army from June 19, 1962 until he was honorably discharged on June 11, 1963. After his time in the military, he attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg where he received a degree in sales.
Allen started his sales career at the Big Bear Store in Algona, Iowa. After a few years, he was promoted to management. Allen was then transferred to Ottumwa, Iowa to serve as manager. Wanting to be closer to home, he finished his career with the Big Bear Store in Iowa Falls, Iowa where he served as manager until it closed. Allen, Delores, and their family moved back to northwest Iowa where they made their home in Dickens. Allen worked at the elevator until his retirement.
In his leisure time, Allen enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and hunting. He and Delores also enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States. They especially liked their trips to California, Nevada, Florida, and even Canada.
Allen passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Spencer Hospital, at the age 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Hazel; brother, Leon Hockett; sister, Alberta Baxter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Dorothy Kooker.
He is survived by his wife, Delores of Dickens, Iowa; sons, Paul (Robin) Hockett of Spencer, Iowa and Ron Hockett of Spencer, Iowa; three grandchildren and their families, Jon (Ashley) Hockett, and their children, Clara and Parker, Kaylee (Logan) Hockett and their children, Raelyn and Levi, Brandee (Kyle) Hockett and their children, Kholson, Paityn, and Aidyn; sister, Wilma Cannon of Windom, Minnesota; along with many other relatives and friends.
