Arden Vance Twaiten, son of Thomas and Ida (Lugeland) Twaiten, was born May 31, 1927 on the family farm near Depew, Iowa. He began his education in country school until 8th grade, then continued his education at Emmetsburg public high school and graduated in 1944. Following graduation, he started farming with his father on the family farm.

Arden was inducted into the Army on December 3, 1952. He served in Korea from June 1953 to September of 1954. He was honorably discharged from the Army on October 16th, 1954. Upon returning from the service, he returned to work on the farm.

He was united in marriage to Joann Naig on June 30, 1957 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew, Iowa. To this union, three children were born. Along with being a husband and father, he was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer.

Arden and Joann were lifetime members of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew and he served several different offices at the church. He was a member of the farm bureau where he served as a director. He also served on the board of directors for the Lakeside Lutheran Home for several years.

Arden and Joann made their home in Emmetsburg following retirement from the farm. During this time he enjoyed playing cards, board games, and his daily coffee and conversation with his coffee buddies at Kirby's Cafe. Most of all, he enjoyed his time with his family and grandchildren.

Arden passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at his home in Emmetsburg at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son; brother Kermit Twaiten; and sister Ivanelle Twaiten.

He is survived by his wife, Joann of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his son and daughter, Timothy and his wife, Ruth Twaiten of Emmetsburg; Julie Ann and her husband, Al Laubenthal of Emmetsburg; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Ali, and Alex; and three great-grandchildren, Landon, Lucas, Laney, and one on the way; a brother, Thomas J. Twaiten of New Port Beach, California; as well as many nieces and nephews.
