Arlene Modesta (Elbert) Joynt was born March 10, 1925 in Whittemore, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Marte) Elbert. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School.

On December 31, 1945, Arlene was united in marriage to Lloyd M. Joynt at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The couple farmed north of Emmetsburg where they raised their four daughters. In early 1988, Lloyd and Arlene moved into Emmetsburg.

Arlene worked at Quaker Oats, Ben Franklin, J.C. Penney, Emmetsburg Eye Clinic and Emmetsburg Community School Food Program. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She enjoyed baking, especially Monster Cookies and English Muffin Bread which her grandchildren and great grandchildren were thrilled to receive. She especially loved having family visit which always included home cooked meals and several games of cards. We celebrate her many roles in life; Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

Arlene passed away, January 1, 2019 at PARC Hall at the age of 93.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Kathleen (Mike) Rowe, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Veronica Berres, South St. Paul, MN; Mary Ellen (Ned) Munn, Emmetsburg, IA; and Alice Ann (Jerry) Stillman, Emmetsburg, IA. Grandchildren: Amy (Jason) Mueller, Jason (Ali) Munn, Jennifer (Erich) Johnke, Mollie (Ryan) Veldboom, David (Melissa) Rowe, Laura (Mike) Harris, Stephanie (Aaron) Boes, Teresa Luke and Ryan (Sarah) Stillman.
