Elizabeth "Betty" A. Janssen, daughter of Cecil and Marie (Conlon) Baxter, was born February 10, 1937 near Ayrshire, Iowa. She received her education in Ayrshire. At the age of ten, Betty's mother died and she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Bertha Conlon.

On October 8, 1953 Betty was united in marriage to Philip Janssen in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. To this union four children were born.

They made their home on the farm in Great Oak Township, near Ayrshire. Betty loved living on the farm and raising her children there. She enjoyed supporting Phil and his interest in horses, attending many events with him. She will certainly be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, but also as a very independent, hard working lady.

Betty worked at Joyces Foodland as a cashier and later as a waitress at the Kermore Club in Emmetsburg and The Lounge in Ayrshire. She was then employed at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg where she worked as a custodian.

Betty was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and church circle in Emmetsburg. Betty was active in making quilts and diapers that were sent to missions from her church. She looked forward to playing cards with her card club each week. Betty also enjoyed collecting bird figurines as well as stamps.

Betty passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at her home near Ayrshire, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip in 2013; her parents, Cecil and Marie Baxter; her maternal grandmother, Bertha Conlon; and her brother, Harvey.

She is survived by her children, Virginia (Ben) Reeves of Conesville, Iowa, Dennis (Sandra) Janssen of Donnellson, Iowa, Bernard (Linda) Janssen of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Kathy (Mike) Last of West Liberty, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Richard "Dick" (Sandy) Baxter of Emmetsburg, Iowa; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
