Beverly J. Hankey, daughter of Robert and Velma L. (Woody) Wise was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Her family moved to Rolfe where they made their home until 1939 when they moved to Great Oak Township, near Ayrshire. Beverly attended three country schools until they were closed. She then attended Emmetsburg Community School, where she met the love of her life. Bev graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1953.
Following high school Bev worked at the Ruthven State Bank until 1955. On April 14, 1955, Bev was united in marriage to Asa Orval Hankey in Emmetsburg. They moved to El Paso Texas, where Orval was stationed at Fort Bliss, making this their home until November of 1955. Orval was transferred to Europe and Bev returned to Iowa, giving birth to their first child, Roger on May 6, 1956. Orval returned home in 1957 and they were blessed with a daughter, Lisa on December 20, 1968.
Beverly was employed at Berkley's and the Palo Alto County Hospital, prior to becoming the bookkeeper for Orval's '66 Station. She later went to work at the First United Methodist Church where she was employed as the secretary for eleven years, before retiring.
Beverly was a member of the First United Methodist Church and church circle. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters.
She loved gardening and canning the produce she raised. She loved her flowers, sewing, reading any newspapers she had the opportunity to find, attending the Clay County Fair, and especially taking care of her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her special recipe for cut out sugar cookies that everyone loved.
Beverly passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the Emmetsburg Care Center, at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Velma and her husband Asa Orval on July 3, 2018.
She is survived by her children, Roger (Darlene) Hankey of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Lisa Hankey and her fiancé, Guy Determann of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Eric Hankey and his fiancée, Jasa Tegland of Humboldt, Iowa, Emily (Cody) DeWall of Pocahontas, Iowa, Jasmine Boblit of Emmetsburg, Iowa and NiColett Boblit of Emmetsburg, Iowa; a great grandson, Brody Boblit; nephew, Dr. Tom Schumann of Orem, Utah; as well as other relatives and many friends.
