Brian J. Waldstein, son of Howard and Jeannette (Johnston) Waldstein, was born April 6, 1952 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.  He received his education in Sioux Rapids, graduating from Sioux Rapids High School in 1970.  Following high school Brian continued his education at Iowa State University, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Farm Operations.  Brian not only left Iowa State with his degree but with a deep love of the Iowa State Cyclones that never left him.  He was most often dressed in cardinal and gold and was always ready to discuss an upcoming or previously played game.  Brian was a devoted fan his entire life!

Brian returned to Sioux Rapids to farm which he did with great passion.  On June 2, 1973 Brian was united in marriage to Ann Simons at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  They were blessed with three sons, Eric, Jeffrey, and Sean.  Brian enjoyed coaching and attending his boys' games.  He was always proud to tell that he never missed one of his kids' games and he never lost a crop!

Brian was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids for many years before it closed and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Brian was very interested and involved in the conservation of soil and water within Buena Vista County as well as the state of Iowa.  He served on the Buena Vista Soil and Water Conservation Commission, and was a member of the Iowa State Extension Service, Lost Island Water Quality Team and was chairman of the Iowa State Experimental Farm near Sutherland, Iowa.  Brian was an observer for the National Weather Service.

His interest in conservation also led to his love of hunting, fishing and boating.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their home on Lost Island.  A highlight for Brian was tailgating at I.S.U. games and rooting for any team that was playing the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Brian passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 69.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Jeannette Waldstein; his son, Jeffrey Waldstein; sister; Patricia Mills; brothers, Eric, in infancy and Kyle Waldstein; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Alice Simons.

He is survived by his wife, Ann of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; his sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, Eric and Hillary Waldstein of Rochester, Minnesota and their children, Xander, Ryan and Torunn; Sean and Amanda Waldstein of Sioux Rapids, Iowa and their children Ryleigh, Peyton and Evan; brothers, Sam Waldstein of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Rick (Ila) Waldstein of Texas; sister-in-law, Kathy (Marvin) Bradfield of Lewis, Iowa; brother-in-law, Wayne Mills of Mulvane, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; as well as may other relatives and friends.
