Carol Darlene (Dyer) Duis, was born April 29, 1939 to Robert "Bob" and Rosella (Abby) Dyer, at their home on a farm north of Ayrshire, Iowa.  She received her education at Ayrshire Consolidated School graduating in 1957.

Carol was trained as a Certified Nurses Assistant and Home Health Assistant.  She was employed at the Palo Alto County Health System and worked as a dietary aide at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.  Carol also worked in private homes helping individuals as well as the Good Samaritan Home in Laurens, and the Emmetsburg Care Center.

On September 18, 1971, Carol was united in marriage to Henry "Hank" Duis at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.  They were blessed with a daughter, Christina on June 1, 1971.  Carol and Hank were foster parents and Carol was a licensed day care provider for several years.  Carol and Hank were married for twenty eight years before Hank's death in 2000.

Carol enjoyed baking bread and cookies for family and friends, reading cookbooks and watching game shows.  She also enjoyed watching murder/mysteries, police and courtroom shows and classic movies.  Carol liked reading and doing word search puzzles.  She also collected bells, angels and loved her dachshunds.

Carol passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 81.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Rosella Dyer; her husband, Henry "Hank"; two infant sisters, Mary and Colleen Dyer; a stepson, Christopher Adam Duis, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herb and Anna (Groot) Duis; brothers-in-law, John, William, Edward, Herman, Louis and Robert Duis; sisters-in-laws, Sophie Tamman, Ida Wilden, Edna Nietzel, Marie, Tebbe, Katherine, and Frieda Duis and Emma Rand; as well as many other relatives.

She is survived by her daughter, Christina "Tina" Duis of Emmetsburg, Iowa; brothers, Ken (Martha) Dyer of Ruthven, Iowa and John (Paula) Dyer of Algona, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kassen (Karen) Duis of Panora, Iowa, Martin (Shirley) Duis of Spencer, Iowa, Glenys Duis of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Tina would like to thank Carol's doctors, Dr. Getta and Dr. Sticca at the Family Practice, the nurses and staff at Palo Alto County Hospital and the employees at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for the care her mom received.
