As a young boy, Charles' family moved and made their home in Rochelle, Illinois where he completed his education, graduating from Rochelle High School. Charles, now known as "Skip" by his family and friends, began his work in the grocery store business.
On January 26, 1963, Skip was united in marriage to Nona Dunham in Cortland, Illinois. They were blessed with two children, Mark and Sheri.
From delivering bread as a bread delivery driver to working in various grocery stores through the years, Skip continued his work in the food industry his entire life.
Skip and Nona moved from Rochelle, Illinois to Emmetsburg, Iowa in 2011. Skip and Nona were able to be closer to their daughter, Sheri, her husband, Kort Freeman, and their family. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and excel in their sporting events. Skip enjoyed the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Athletic activities as well as the Chicago Cubs and Bears.
One to never sit idle, Skip worked at both grocery stores, Food Pride and Fareway in Emmetsburg until only a few years ago.
Skip passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred.
