Daniel Ervin Koenck, son of Stanley and Bertha (Lee) Koenck, was born August 11, 1960, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He attended school in Emmetsburg and then completed his senior year at West Bend High School where he graduated in 1979. Following high school, Dan joined the United States Army serving from June 26, 1979 until his honorable discharge on May 14, 1980. He was stationed in South Korea in the military police.

On January 23, 1988 Dan was united in marriage to Denise Titus in Gruver, Iowa. They were blessed with three children. Dan later attended Iowa Lakes Community College where he earned his degree in computer science in 1999. Dan began his employment at Jack Links in Laurens where he worked as the I.T. Technician for fourteen years.

Dan loved to barbeque for his friends and family. He was well known by others in this industry throughout the state. Dan enjoyed competing in competitions, including chili cookoffs. His cooking was known as Flareside Barbeque.

When Dan was younger he liked to hunt coon and deer. He went fishing in area lakes and rivers and will always be remembered for his ability to fix anything that was broken, no matter how large or small the project was.

Dan passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 59. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Bertha Koenck.

He is survived by his wife, Denise of Graettinger, Iowa; his children, Brian and Ruth Titus of West Bend, Iowa, Brandon and Lacey Titus of Des Moines, Iowa and Amanda and Josh Vanderhoff of Benton, Louisiana; eight grandchildren; his step mother, Carol Koenck of Emmetsburg, Iowa; brothers, Dennis (Deb) Koenck of Houston, Texas and Daren (Suzy) Koenck of Ruthven, Iowa; sisters, Jill Koenck of Algona, Iowa and Kimberly (Ron) Hutchison of Mallard, Iowa; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
