Dawayne Douglas Kinnetz was born on September 14, 1929, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Fred and Mildred (Lothian) Kinnetz. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1950. He held the record for the mile run there for many years.
On August 5, 1951, Dawayne married Dorothy Larson. They lived in Memphis, Tennessee, Newport, Rhode Island, and Norfolk, Virginia, while he served his country in the United States Navy. When they returned to Emmetsburg, he worked for Milham Produce and then the REC for 36 years until he retired in 1991.
He played the keyboard and the accordion. Dawayne and his wife formed the band "The Roadrunners", which played for years until Dorothy passed away in 1996. They rode their motorcycle and traveled to almost every state in the United States, including Alaska. They had a cottage on Lost Island Lake for years and later a home on East Okoboji, where the kids and grandkids grew up boating and swimming.
Dawayne married Theresa Bonnelle Shaw on July 25, 1998. They resided in Stuart, Iowa, and spent winters in Arizona until she passed. He then moved back to Spirit Lake, Iowa. When his health declined, he moved to the Emmetsburg Care Center in January 2023.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was also a member of the Twilight Chapter Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine, the Eagles of Spencer, Iowa, the Masons, and the VFW in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He spent many hours volunteering and playing music at various nursing homes and other locations.
Dawayne is survived by his children, Alan (Joann) Kinnetz of Laurens, Iowa, Steve Kinnetz of Spencer, Iowa, and Janelle (Dan) Zaug of Clive, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Missy, Brandi, Shawn, Lacey, Blake, Brian, Nathaniel, Adia, Brandon, Brett, Abby, and Carly; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Dale Kinnetz of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Paul Kinnetz of Emmetsburg, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents; sisters, Ruth, Myrna, and Maxine; and brothers, Marvin and Don.
