Devona Lee Trimble, daughter of Lee and Gladys Henely, was born on September 8, 1932, in West Bend, Iowa. She was raised on a farm near Ayrshire, Iowa. She attended the Catholic and public school and later graduated in 1950. In 1951, she married Jim Schneider, and they were blessed with ten children. They raised their children on a farm near Graettinger, Iowa and later moved to Ruthven, Iowa. Jim passed away in December of 1984. She later married Jim Trimble in 1991. He passed away in December of 1999.
Along with raising ten children, Devona had various job opportunities and had a very strong work ethic. She was employed by Havelock School as a school bus driver, worked as a home health aide, was employed by the Mallard Spring Hills Country Club, and she owned and operated her own café and laundromat in Havelock. Devona also served as a city council member for the city of Ruthven, filled in as the city clerk, and took on the duty as pro tem mayor.
Growing up in a large family taught Devona to be a loving and caring individual, putting others first and always being willing to help anyone in any way that she could. Devona was the oldest of 18 children. She devoted much of her time helping her mother care for her younger siblings and further used this knowledge to raise her own family. Devona was a woman with many talents that included her seamstress abilities, her style for fashion, her interior and exterior decorating of her home, and her creativity for landscaping. Her yard was admired for its beauty, precise detail, and elegance. She worked hard and enjoyed keeping her yard beautiful and she received many compliments. She took pride in her projects and had a never-ending list. Her home was welcoming for many gatherings and loved sharing her home with others. She enjoyed her visits from her children and grandchildren.
Devona was a devoted member of the Catholic Faith. Throughout her life she was instrumental in sharing her faith with others by teaching religion classes, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, not only at church, but providing Holy Communion for the sick and elderly in the nursing home. She also was an active lector during the Mass.
She is survived by her siblings, Bernard Henely, Linda Larson, Joe Henely, Virginia Origer, Deb Theesfeld, and David Henely; her children, Camilla Tracy (Steve) of Gastonia, North Carolina, Connie Morley (Jim) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Susan Ferguson (Rod) of Ruthven, Iowa, Mary Anderson (Mitch) of Ruthven, Iowa, Charles Schneider (Dory) of Spencer, Iowa, Cathy Frerk (Jim) of Rolfe, Iowa, Dan Schneider of Ruthven, Iowa, Heidi Gellerman (Doug) of Ruthven, Iowa, and son-in-law, Leon Hanson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; twenty-eight grandchildren, fifty-four great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Devona continued to reside in her beloved home in Ruthven, Iowa until her passing on May 5th, 2023, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 90 with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Gladys; spouses, Jim Schneider and Jim Trimble; siblings, Donald, Dale, Carol, Ray Jean, Dianne, Marilyn, Paul, Kenneth, John, and Perry; daughter, Teresa Hanson; son, Joe Schneider; and grandson, Chad Shellabarger.
