Donald "Dick" Richard Neary, son of William and Mary (Leary) Neary was born on January 24, 1937 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He received his education at Emmetsburg Catholic Schools. Following his education, Dick enlisted in the United States Navy where he served proudly from 1954 until his Honorary Discharge in 1957.

After his time in the Navy, Dick returned to Emmetsburg where he set up shop as a local barber. His career at Neary's Barbershop spanned generations. Dick was generous in both humor and friendship. It was common to find a line of customers sitting around the barbershop sharing jokes and talking sports and events of the day. One would be hard-pressed to find an E'Hawk, young or old, who had not spent time in his barber chair or enjoyed a Neary "flat-top special".

On September 16, 1961, Dick was united in marriage to Catherine "Katie" Kliegl at Assumption Parish Church in Emmetsburg. To this union, four children were born.

Dick was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish and V.F.W. Post #2295. He enjoyed a good game of golf or cards, spending time with family and friends, and a good meal. He was an avid E'Hawk, Cubs, and of course, Fighting Irish fan. His humor and good-natured spirit were unrivaled. St. Patrick's Day festivities began and ended with his Annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration at the Barbershop. It was not only the best spot to watch the parade, it was also the best place to catch up with those he loved most.

Remembered for his frequent and "quick" trips to the grocery store, Dick was often found gathering the items for which he or his family had a taste. No trip was complete without a visit or two with whomever he met along the way. Getting home in time for kick-off, tee-off or opening pitch was his only requirement.

Dick passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Palo Alto County Hospital at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers William, Gerald, Patrick and John (Ab).

He is survived by his wife, Katie; children Mike (Pam) of Belleville, IL , Janan (Preston) Hall, Mary (Brian) Morrill and Patrick (Andrea Price) of Owasso, OK; beloved grandchildren Katie (Nic) Bedard, Zachary Neary, Braxton Hall, Madison Hall, Jayson Morrill and Ellie Morrill; great granddaughters Ruby, Isabel and Penelope Bedard; his only sister, Evelyn (George) Kliegl; as well as many other relatives and friends.
