Dixie Florence Vesey, daughter of Lillian V. (Thornton) and William H. King, Sr., was born February 8, 1942 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She received her education in Emmetsburg.
On June 18, 1961, Dixie was united in marriage to Everett Vesey at the Free Methodist Church in Fillmore, Minnesota. To this union three children were born.
Dixie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Everett owned and operated the Economy Grocery Store in Wykoff, Minnesota for twenty eight and a half years. Dixie loved caring for her grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed playing with them. She made beautiful crafts of all types and also did upholstery work for a short time.
After selling their grocery store, Dixie and Everett moved to Palo Alto County making their home near Cylinder. Dixie had a large collection of bells and trains. Her interest in trains was due to the fact her father worked for the railroad, which allowed Dixie to often travel on the train to area communities. She and Everett both enjoyed watching and feeding the birds on their acreage.
Dixie passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at Good Samaritan Home in Algona, Iowa, at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven sisters, Iotha Baker, Rosetta Kremer, Kathy Boitnott, Irene Munden, Donna Studer, Virginia Fokken, and Garnett Craig; and four brothers, William H. King, Jr., Kenneth King, Cecil "Bud" King, and James King.
She is survived by her husband, Everett of Cylinder, Iowa; her children, Matthew (LeAnn) Vesey of Curlew, Iowa, Melanie (Harvey) Hart of Dover, Minnesota, and Paul (Tami) Vesey of Lakefield, Minnesota; grandchildren, Samantha (Jason) Hrdlicka, Natasha (Jerry Fay) Berg, David Berg, Ryan Vesey, Meghan Vesey, Tori Vesey, Lucas Vesey, and Douglas Vesey; step grandsons, Ian Hart and Tanner Hart; great grandchildren, Boston, Kaydence and Lillian; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
