Donald Ray Bordwell, son of Harry and Marie (Miller) Bordwell, was born March 12, 1951 in Livermore, Iowa. As a boy, Donald lived in Humboldt and Minnesota. He later moved to Emmetsburg where he became part of the Horizon's Unlimited family.
Donald began working at West Elementary in the lunch program in 2014 and continued working there until 2024. He was also employed at Kirby's Café from 2015 until 2020 and helped do yard care with Paul Breese. Donald enjoyed doing yard work with Paul and they became very close friends.
Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.
Donald loved cats, especially his cat, Midnight. He was often seen riding his bike all over Emmetsburg. Donald enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, listening to country music and watching NASCAR racing. He had the joy of going to Kansas City to a NASCAR race. This was truly a highlight in Donald's life. He looked forward to Christmas each year, decorating his home and having a huge Christmas tree.
Donald passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, after a short illness. He was 73 years old. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marie Bordwell and two brothers, Wayne and Gerald Bordwell.
He is survived by his brothers, Orland Dean Bordwell, Gary Lee Bordwell and Merril Bordwell; a sister, Carolyn; his girlfriend, Angie; his good friend, Paul Breese; special friends at Horizons and Sheryl Darling; and his beloved cat, Midnight; as well as many other friends.
