Donnie Maynard, son of Everett and Elizabeth Faye (Pritchard) Maynard, was born December 22, 1939 in Gallatin County, Shawneetown, Illinois.  He received his education in Shawneetown. Donnie was inducted into the United States Army on March 10, 1958.  He was stationed at Henry Kaserne, Germany, serving in the same base as Elvis Presley.  Donnie was a sharpshooter marksman while he was in the service.   He was honorably discharged on October 26, 1959, then was employed in a mobile home business.

In 1975 Donnie was united in marriage to Rose Wheaton in Mattoon, Illinois.  They were blessed with five children.

Donnie then began long haul trucking and continued this for most of his life, being known to fellow truckers as "Scale Dodger".  After retiring from trucking Donnie helped area farmers in northern Iowa and then moved to Ringsted to be closer to his family.

Donnie enjoyed being outside, mowing his yard and going fishing.  He was always ready to get on the boat to fish with his family and friends and catch those "big fish".  He also enjoyed having squirt gun fights and playing ball with his grandkids.  Donnie shared his life with his family by telling stories to them while sitting at the table or on the porch.

Donnie died Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 81.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Elizabeth Faye Maynard; son, Kenneth Lee Maynard;  son-in-law, John Halstead; and four brothers, Maxie Maynard, David Maynard, Bob Maynard and Bill Maynard.

He is survived by his children, Donna Halstead (Kent) of Ringsted, Iowa, Bobbie Maine of Alden, Iowa, Janet Jergens (Matt) of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Tammy Gould (Ted) of Sheldahl, Iowa, Tina  Reichart (Brian) of Smithville, Missouri and Joe Sadler (Heidi) of Omaha, Illinois; the children's mother, Rose Maynard; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Maynard (Glenda)  and Earl Maynard; two sisters, Vanda Turner (Dwight) and Eileen Koberlien; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
