On November 22, 1944, Elliott was inducted into the United States Army and served his country during WWII. He was stationed in Europe and then returned to the U.S., serving stateside until being honorably discharged on August 7, 1946. Elliott returned to Palo Alto County where he farmed, milked his herd of Brown Swiss cows, raised chickens and hogs.
Elliott was united in marriage to Norma Maxine Brawner on September 19, 1948 in Graettinger, Iowa. They were blessed with four children and the joy of spending 72 years together.
Elliott loved farming and being a good steward of the land. He participated in several cornhusking competitions throughout the state as well as other states. He received many championships throughout his competing years. He also enjoyed attending antique plowing demonstrations near Graettinger, where he would use the horse drawn plow that he had used when he was helping his dad farm. Following his retirement, Elliott and Norma made their home in Spencer for nine years before moving to the Ruthven Care Center.
Elliott was a member of the Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Graettinger American Legion, the Ruthven American Legion and the Spencer American Legion. He enjoyed going to Cutty's in Okoboji where he and Norma spent many weekends. They also looked forward to attending the Clay County Fair each year where he and Norma were host and hostess at the food court for many years. Elliott had the joy of taking the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He loved antique cars and often drove his old Dodge or his tractors in area parades.
Elliott passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Ruthven Community Care Center, at the age of 100, a milestone that he was very proud to have reached.
