Evelyn Joyce Clasing, daughter of Simon Newton and Beulah Luella (Meeker) Knouse, was born September 15, 1941 near Indianola, Iowa, in Warren County. She received her education in Indianola, graduating from high school in 1959. Joyce was united in marriage to Gordon Barg and they were blessed with three children. She and Gordon owned and operated the Emmetsburg locker for several years.
Joyce later received certification to be a C.N.A. She was employed at the Ruthven Community Care Center for nearly twenty years before her health forced her to quit working.
Joyce and Richard Clasing were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven and Joyce's family expanded with four step sons and their families.
She was a member of the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. Joyce loved collecting angels, visiting the casino and doing crossword and word puzzles. She also was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading books by Danielle Steele. Joyce will always be remembered, by her family and friends, for the delightful meals she served to everyone.
Joyce passed away Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Assisted Living in Ruthven, Iowa, at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Gordon Barg on August 29, 2016 and Richard Clasing on April 21, 2017; her son, Bruce Alan Barg; brothers, Tom and Ted Knouse; and a sister, Sherry Zenor.
She is survived by her daughters, Renee (Barg) Elbert and her husband, Michael of Kansas City, Missouri and Christine (Barg) Henderson and her husband, Jeff of Omaha, Nebraska; four step sons, Steven Clasing of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Paul Clasing of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Kevin Clasing and his wife, Kitty of Mason City, Iowa and Jay Clasing and his wife, Deanna of Ruthven, Iowa; nine grandchildren; six step grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; a brother, Roger Knouse of Houston, Texas; a sister, June Wood of Indianoloa, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
