Evelyn Mary Moran passed away peacefully on February 28, 2020, at her daughter's home in Cedar Rapids, at the age of 101.

Evelyn was born on August 7, 1918, to James and Laura Manwarren in Bigelow MN.  She lived the majority of her life in Palo Alto County. Evelyn was the second oldest of twelve children and as the oldest daughter, she was truly a caretaker from the start. She spent her early years helping to raise her siblings and savored her relationships with each of them throughout their lives. Evelyn married John Patrick Moran in Spencer on July 2, 1942.  While they enjoyed many wonderful years together, the biggest blessing of their union was the pride and joy of their lives, their children, John and Helen. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, relative and friend.

Evelyn was a devout, traditional Catholic and a member of Holy Family Parish and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.  She was a kind and caring woman and just being around her would bring a smile to your face and make you want to be a better person.  Evelyn was a great example of how to live your life. She was the hardest worker you would ever meet, the friendliest person to talk to, the best cinnamon roll and potato salad maker on the planet, the most loyal friend you could find, and truly the most beautiful woman both inside and out. She was strong, smart, patient, and most of all, humble and content.  She truly knew what was important in life.

Evelyn loved to spend as much time as possible with her family, illustrated by the countless stories that her family has about times spent with her throughout the years. She enjoyed baking and was eager to share what she made with family and friends, the majority of the time made without recipes.  She considered the microwave to be one of the greatest inventions of her lifetime. Evelyn had a green thumb and always loved spending time working in the yard and garden. She loved to crochet and would make beautiful afghans to bring warmth and joy to family and friends. She loved animals, especially the many dogs she had throughout the years.  Sitting at her kitchen table watching the birds come and go from the bird feeder brought her enjoyment. Evelyn loved reading novels, doing word search puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune, Lawrence Welk, and Andy Griffith.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; a step-daughter Mary; her brothers Frank, Eugene, Robert, John and James (in infancy); her sisters Marie Stoulil, Lucille Allen and Loretta Poland; and a step-granddaughter, Kathy.

She is survived by her son, John P. Moran (Michelle) of Cedar Rapids; her daughter, Helen Moran Nagel (James) of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Virginia (Don) Steil and Joann Nichols; her brother, Orville (Nettie) Manwarren; her sister-in-law, June Manwarren; two granddaughters, Molly Nagel of Cedar Rapids and Katie Nagel Shao (Chong) of Anamosa; and her first great-grandchild due on Evelyn's 102nd birthday; step-granddaughters, Patricia and Therese; eight step-great grandchildren; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Emmetsburg Catholic School.  Online condolences may be left to www.martinmatticefuneralhome.com .
