Clement W. Currans, son of James Henry and Salome Ann (Antoine) Currans, was born February 14, 1948 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He began his education at St. Ellen's Catholic School, attending first through eighth grade. He then went on to complete his high school education at Emmetsburg Catholic School, graduating in 1966. Clem continued his education, attending Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, for four years and then to the American College Seminary in Louvain, Belgium, for four years. While studying in Belgium, Clem visited with his relatives in Alsace, France, and developed a friendship with cousins Danielle (Ayme) and Jean-Michel DePoux, entertaining them on their trips to Iowa.
On July 13, 1974 Clement W. Currans was ordained into the priesthood at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Most Reverend Frank H. Greteman.
Father Clem served in the following parishes throughout the Sioux City Diocese:
Assistant Pastor– St. Joseph Parish - LeMars 1974-1978

Clem loved to travel and visited most of Europe, the Baltics, Brazil, Ireland, Mexico and in the U.S. he took trips to Lake Powell, Alaska and Hawaii. Clem liked the challenge of skiing in Colorado, the Black Hills and Tahoe. In the summer he biked and occasionally joined RAGBRAI for day trips. He enjoyed fishing and hunting pheasants, turkeys, and deer with his brothers, nephews and friends. He learned to cook a mean venison roast and pheasant breast with buckshot. With his brother Paul, Clem restored Farmall tractors, F-12, F-14, F-300 and F-460. In later years he pulled the Emmetsburg Catholic School float, for the St. Pat's parade, with his F-12, all decked out in his Irish garb. Additionally he appreciated reading a good Western novel, nature books and National Geographic magazines.
Clem loved being a parish priest and in his early years he took part in Beginning Experience, helping divorced, separated or widowed adults deal with their pain and search for meaning in their lives. Later he found his niche helping others deal with loss, grief and trauma. Clem always looked forward to spending time with his family whether it was on a trip or a family get together on the farm.
Father Clem passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Salome Currans; brother, James Currans; and a sister, Rose Herke.
