Irene Anne Tripp Pierce, daughter of Detrich and Margaret (Herbst) Hessenius, was born August 17, 1920 on a farm ten miles south of Benton, Iowa. She received her education in Laurens, graduating from Laurens High School. Following high school, Irene attended college where she studied accounting.

On September 19, 1940, Irene was united in marriage to Alvie E. Tripp in St. Joseph, Missouri. To this union seven children were born. They made their home on a farm near Webb where Irene was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, helping on the farm as well as caring for her family. In 1973 Alvie, Irene and Arlene moved to Emmetsburg.

Irene was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and church circle. She enjoyed quilting at the church.

Irene loved to go fishing and always cleaned her own fish. She liked to play cards, especially Pinochle and 500. Irene and Alvie belonged to some card clubs while they were living near Webb.

Alvie passed away in 1975 and Irene later married Leonard Pierce on April 27, 1990 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. They continued to make their home in Emmetsburg.

Irene passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Home in Algona, Iowa, at the age of 98.
