On May 31, 1959 Jack was united in marriage to Judith Cork at the United Methodist Church in West Bend, Iowa. To this union three children were born.
Jack served in the Iowa National Guard. He farmed near Cylinder and was involved with Cylinder Camper Sales. Later, he and Jerry Holland owned H&L Sales, selling C.B. radios and microwaves. Jack then began selling insurance with Farm Bureau and in 1979 he joined Pat Mehan and Jerry Holland to form Mehan, Holland and Lowe Insurance in Emmetsburg. Jack retired from the agency in 2005.

Jack enjoyed bowling, playing pool and snowmobiling. When he was younger he played fast pitch softball, and raced Go Carts. Jack also liked playing Poker and 500 with his friends. He loved storytelling, joking with his friends and family and playing pranks on them. Since the casino was built, Jack liked spending some time there.
