James (Jim) Vernon Bramley, 92, of Cylinder, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 18, 2021.
Jim was born on June 10, 1929, in Arion, Iowa and raised by parents Joe and Ollie. He married the love of his life, Marguerite "Maggie" Hough on November 14, 1954.
Jim was drafted into the Army in January of 1951, completed his basic training in Fort Riley, Kansas and then served as a medic with the 24 th infantry division during the Korean War. Jim was honorably discharged in November of 1952.
Jim had a passion for farming. In 1940 his family moved from Arion, IA, to a farm located in rural Cylinder that became the Bramley family farm. Jim grew up raising sheep, cattle and hogs and thoroughly enjoyed it. He and Maggie moved to Rockwell, IA and rented a farm from Mike Bowman in 1959. In 1962, Jim, Maggie and their son, Bill moved back to the Bramley family farm where he continued to help raise livestock with his dad, Joe. In 1977, he purchased Bramley Farms and continued operating the farm with his son, Bill until he retired in 1992 and Bill took over. Jim was also a gifted dog trainer and shared a bond with his farm dogs during his career. Beyond raising animals, Jim enjoyed grain farming and won the Iowa Masters Corn Grower Contest presented by Garst Seed Company. He was the ultimate handyman. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix.
In addition to life on the farm, Jim loved having coffee with his wife, Maggie and visiting with friends at the Haack's Nest in Cylinder. He relished visits from his grandchildren Mandy, Austin, Andrea and Matt and his great grandchildren Landon, Lenora, Beckham, Finley, Brooklyn and Rowan.
Jim is proceeded in death by his wife Maggie, infant son Michael James, siblings Richard Bramley, Vida Krough, Sally Morgan, Ruth Harson, Eugene Bramley and wife of son Bill, Deb Weir.
He is survived by his son Bill of Emmetsburg, IA, his siblings Charlotte Morey of West Bend, IA; Frank Bramley of Charter Oak, IA; Ronald Bramley of Mason City, IA; his grandchildren Mandy (Josh) Frey, Austin Bramley, Andrea (Jakob) Parmley all of Sioux Falls, SD, and Matt Weir of Fort Dodge, IA; great grandchildren Landon, Lenora, Beckham, Finley, Brooklyn and Rowan.
