Jim was born on November 11, 1947 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Jesse (Bud) and Ruth (Renfjeld) Donahue.  He grew up in Spencer, Iowa, graduating from Spencer High School in 1966.  He went on  to earn a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota State University.  He resided at Lost Island Lake near Ruthven, Iowa.

He retired from Buske Manufacturing in Pocahontas, Iowa.  He and Judi, his wife, of 44 years, moved to The Villages, Florida in 2005.  Jim was happiest when he was working in the garage on one of his many projects.  He returned to Iowa every summer where many of those projects were located.

Jim passed away on July 26, 2018 at Cornerstone Hospice House in The Villages.  Jim is survived by his wife, Judi; sister-in-law, Linda Donahue; brother-in-law, George Roland (Meredith); nephews, Mark Donahue (Hui-Chen), Erik Donahue (Missy) and Patrick Roland.  Also his grandnieces, Sophia, Addison, Gabriella and Erin; his grandnephew, Owen.

He was predeceased by his parents; infant son, Todd; brother, Tom Donahue; and a special aunt, Mabel Baker.
