James Michael Frederick, son of Leland and Kathleen (Brennan) Frederick, was born February 7, 1962 in Emmetsburg.  He attended Emmetsburg Rainbow School.  On August 10, 1985, Jim moved into the 21st Street Group Home.  He was the first resident in that home.  He worked at Willing Workers and later at Horizons Unlimited can redemption center.

Jim loved all types of music, especially watching classical musicals such as West Side Story, Singing in the Rain, Oklahoma, or My Fair Lady.  He enjoyed coloring and making pictures for his dad.  Jim was difficult to beat in his favorite game of Carroms.  He liked doing puzzles and dancing and always looked forward to participating in the Special Olympics.  He competed in the softball throw and broad jump, medaling in both events.  Jim loved spending time with his family and his friends.

Jim was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Jim passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 59.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen "Kate" Frederick and a brother, Thomas Frederick.

He is survived by his father, Leland "Lee" Frederick of Emmetsburg, Iowa; brothers, John Frederick and his wife, Laurie of Mesa, Arizona, Joe Frederick and his wife, Liane of Henderson, Nevada; sisters, Mary Cooper and her husband, Dan of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Alice Haht and her husband, Jim of Sutherland, Iowa, Therese Schany and her husband, Chuck of Spencer, Iowa and Cathy Berkland of Emmetsburg, Iowa; sister-in-law, Jackie Frederick of Abilene, Kansas; twenty nieces and nephews; twenty one great nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
