James Ray Moser, son of Leo and Iva (Taylor) Moser, was born January 26, 1943 on the family farm near Rodman. He received his education in Rodman, graduating as a proud Cardinal from Rodman High School in 1961.

On April 18, 1964 Jim was united in marriage to Mary Carney at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. They celebrated 56 years together. They were blessed with four children.

Jim was employed at Mefferds in Laurens and also for Ernie Krough at the gas station in Emmetsburg. He then started farming in 1965 and thoroughly loved farming his river bottom ground and driving his pickup to the river every day. He could often be heard having quite a conversation with his dog, Chico.

Jim loved having a good time, whether he was with his family or friends. He often referred to himself as a "River Rat" and if the opportunity arose, Jim was always ready to begin singing the Rodman Fight Song. He liked to pan for gold and had been to Arizona, Wyoming and Wisconsin. Jim was a lightning fast boxer in the 80s and is often remembered for knocking his opponent completely out of the ring during the Spirit Rolls Royce Amateur match. He enjoyed playing cards and was always the life of the party.

Jim passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at his home near Rodman, Iowa, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Iva Moser; son-in-law, Matt Gappa; brothers-in-law, Dan Jorgenson, Larry Pooler, and Jim Hamilton; and a granddaughter, Rachel.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Rodman, Iowa; his children, Kim (Bill) Moser of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Kerry (Dan) Heckman of Kansas City, Missouri, Jamie (Carmen) Moser of Cylinder, Iowa and Kelly (Steve) Gentry of Plainview, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, Michael, Laura, Colten, Kaylie, Allyssa, and Chelsey; seven great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; sisters, Carolina Jorgenson of Ledyard, Iowa, Marlene Hamilton of Rutland, Iowa and his twin sister, Janet Pooler of Whittier, California; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
