Gerald Bigelow Ruehle, son of Clarence and Lu (Bigelow) Ruehle, was born October 18, 1937 on the farm near Ruthven, Iowa. He received his education at Lake Center, graduating from Lake Center High School in 1955.
On May 15, 1957 Jerry was united in marriage to Barbara Kay Prew at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven, Iowa. They were blessed with four children. Jerry farmed in the Ruthven area doing grain farming as well as raising livestock. He also had a dairy herd and milked cows. Jerry shelled corn and did trucking in the area. While trucking he would often be found at the sale barn in Spencer, helping behind the scenes with the sales. Jerry enjoyed working at the Clay County Fair for many years.
He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. He also served on the Ruthven Fire Department and was active in the Cattleman's Association and Pork Producers.
Jerry enjoyed fishing during the summer and snowmobiling with the Roadrunners in the winters. He was an avid sports fan, and especially liked watching basketball and baseball. Jerry loved people, whether visiting with them or playing a game of Euchre or Buck. As his fellow players would attest, Jerry was tough to beat. He always looked forward to the time he could spend with his family.
Jerry passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home in Ruthven, Iowa, at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kay; two brothers, Bruce and Don Ruehle; and a sister, Phyllis Peterson.
