John Gerald Myers, son of Albert Daniel and Marie Francis (Brewer) Myers, was born December 10, 1942. He received his education in Ayrshire, graduating from Silver Lake Consolidated School in 1961.
As a young lad, John began his farming adventures with the Kennedy brothers and Phil Janssen. He then went to work for Jack Kibbie. John left the farm behind for a few years to begin a career at the Clear Lake Bakery as a route salesman. But his love of the land brought him back to farming which he continued until the time of his death. While farming, John also worked at Eatons in Spencer.
On August 22, 1963 John was united in marriage to Karen Cornelius. To this union three children were born.
John was a long time member of The Church of Christ. He enjoyed sports of all kinds but especially softball, basketball and bowling. Whatever his children and grandchildren were active in, he was a ready and willing participant, whether it was a softball game in the yard, or a basketball game on the driveway.
John passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at his home in Lytton, Iowa, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert "Pete" and Marie Myers; siblings, Lois Creveling, Charles Myers, Gordon Myers, Audrey Edwards, and Kathleen Thompson; and a grandson, Justin Dixon.
He is survived by his children, Michelle (Jeff) Dixon of Mason City, Iowa, Ron (Kristie) Myers of Waverly, Iowa and Kim (Chad) Davis of Donnellson, Iowa; a special friend and companion, Pam Alvestad of Lytton, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters, June Meusburger of Kansas City, Kansas and Mary (Homer) Ewoldt of Spencer, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
