Karen Kay (King) Harr, was born September 22, 1946 in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Donald and Betty (King) Kafer.
Karen received her education in the Estherville and Emmetsburg areas. In 1982 Karen, her sister Cindy and her son Paul all received their GED from Iowa Lakes Community College. Karen was employed at Upper Des Moines Opportunity Inc. for thirty one years before retiring in 2008. Most of her years at UDMO was working for the Head Start Program. She also worked at the Redwood Café, Food Pride, Casey's and Dyno's.
On October 28, 1978 Karen was united in marriage to Daniel Harr in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They were married for nearly 44 years. The relationship she and Dan shared was the true meaning of love and it was undeniable. They had one son, Paul Wilson. Years later they were blessed to raise their grandchildren, Daniel Wilson and Kalla Wilson.
Karen enjoyed many things but the most joy in her life was brought by spending time with her family and friends. She was known as "The Colonel" by many as she was the one everyone turned to. She was the glue that held the family together after her mother passed.
She loved to go on vacations to visit her brother and sister-in-law in Nebraska and to Northern Minnesota to see other family members as well. She found her vacations with family to be peaceful and relaxing. She loved to play Bingo and Bunco. Lots of memories were made over the years at the annual Harr Labor Day celebrations with singing, dancing, horseback riding and volleyball.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Betty Kafer; her mother-in-law, Lola Behrends; father-in-law, Dean Harr; maternal grandparents, Joe and Verna King; sister, Nancy Manwarren; a brother, Bill Kafer; and a brother-in-law, Tom Reilly.
Karen is survived by her husband, Dan; her son, Paul; her grandson, Daniel (Stacy) Wilson; granddaughter, Kalla (Trent); great-grandchildren, Julynn (Ty), Montana, Griffin, Natalie, Caleb, Terra, Pierce, Aubreigh and Reagan; and one great-great grandson, Bohdi, is on the way; sisters, Cindy Reilly, Donna (Ed) Lawson, Diane Lawson, Barb (Dan) Potkonak; brothers, Terry (Mavis) King, Randy (Mary) Kafer, Mike (Deena) Kafer, Tony (Tina) Kafer; brother-in-law, Tom Manwarren; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
