Katherine "Kay" Brown was born September 18, 1954 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Jay and Helen Brown. She began her education at St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1972.

Following graduation, Kay moved to Kansas City where she was employed at Hallmark Cards as an executive assistant. She later moved to Denver and worked at Denver Dry Goods. While in Denver, Kay enjoyed snow skiing and the Colorado lifestyle. Kay's next move took her to Dallas where she was employed at Sanger Harris's downtown location. After the store was acquired by a Houston retailer, Kay accepted the offer to transfer to Foley's in Houston. In 1997, she moved back to Dallas where she began a career doing sports promotions. She later landed a position with Rosewood Properties in the Crescent complex in uptown Dallas. This lead her to commercial real estate at 2M Properties.

Kay made her home in Richland Oaks in Richardson, Texas. She loved her dog, Lattie and her cat, Miss Priss and was known to care for all of the neighborhood pets. Kay's neighbors became her extended family. Kay was a friend to many and a gift to all who knew her. She was a fun, loving, loyal, vivacious sister, daughter and friend.

Kay passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the age of 61. She was preceded in death by her father, Jay Brown; sister-in-law, Ellen Brown.

She is survived by her mother, Helen Brown of Iowa City, Iowa; brothers, Bill Brown of Houston, Texas and Joe Brown of Coralville, Iowa; five nieces, Lisa Sanchez of Santa Maria, California, Molly Brown of Coralville, Iowa, Sarah Raeker of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Katy Knipper of Iowa City, Iowa and Hilary Jensen of Iowa City, Iowa; uncles, Fr. Robert Brown of Sioux City, Iowa and Jack (Sheryl) Kane of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; as well as other relatives and many friends.
