Katheryn Ann (Hauschen) Domek, daughter of Oliver and Katherine (Conrad) Hauschen, was born December 11, 1934 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  She received her education in the Emmetsburg school system and graduated from Emmetsburg High School.

On November 9, 1956, Kay was united in marriage to Robert Domek at the Catholic Rectory in Emmetsburg.  They were blessed with two sons and two daughters.  Bob and Kay made their home in Emmetsburg where they raised their children.  Kay worked at the Palo Alto County Hospital in the laundry department for several years and then was employed at Emmetsburg Community School where she worked in food service.  If asked, Kay's most important job was raising her children and having an open door to all her children's friends.  She, herself, being a water lover, taught her children to swim and ice skate in the gravel pit behind the house and to love all of God's furry creatures.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Kay babysat for her grandchildren and was not only the caretaker but she loved getting down on the floor and playing right along with the kids.  They loved spending time at Kay's home.  She raised a large garden each year and canned the produce she raised.  Kay had a green thumb and her gardens were beautiful.  She baked and cooked for her family, was a talented seamstress and enjoyed attending parades, especially the St. Pat's parade.  She and Bob looked forward to getting together with their neighbors and playing cards. Kay loved all types of animals but especially cats.  Mackie, the cat she currently had, was her companion and friend.  Mackie was most often found sitting on Kay's lap.

Kay passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at her home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 86.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Katherine Hauschen; her husband, Robert; and her son, Jerry.

She is survived by her children, Tom Domek (Amy) of Laurens, Iowa, Deb Metz (David Clasing) of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Julie Reinders of Cumming, Iowa; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; her brother, Ellsworth "Butch" Hauschen of Emmetsburg, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
