Kayla Mae Sterler, daughter of Rhiannon (Berger) Amos, was born December 11, 1997 in Sibley, Iowa. She received her education at Clay Central in Everly. During high school Kayla enjoyed singing and was involved in musicals and plays. She worked at Hy-Vee as well as in area restaurants with her mother. Following graduation from Clay Central in 2016, Kayla continued her education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge where she was enrolled in the Fire Science program where she learned to fight wild fires. Kayla graduated from ICCC with a degree in Fire Science and also as an E.M.T.
After receiving her degree, Kayla was accepted on a wild land crew and fought wild fires in Colorado, Oregon and California, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She later returned to Iowa and was a member of the Badger Fire Department before moving to Des Moines. Kayla was then employed by the Department of Revenue.
Kayla loved adventure, riding her motorcycle, going skydiving and traveling out west. She had the joy of traveling with her mother, aunt and cousin to the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park in 2021. Kayla was an avid Denver Broncos fan and her brother's biggest cheering section when she watched him race Figure 8 competitions. Kayla also loved listening to rock music and attending concerts. Most of all, Kayla's passion was being a mother to her three children, Landynn, Jayce and Isla.
Kayla passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023 at her home in De Soto, Iowa, at the age of 25. She was preceded in death by her father, Scott Sterler; grandpas, Bob Berger and Hank Sterler; grandma, Janice Craig; and great grandma, Roberta Craig.
She is survived by her children, Landynn, Jayce and Isla; her mother and step-father, Rhiannon and Kenny Amos; her brother, Dylan Sterler; grandma, Georgia Sterler; Daren Dunnick; her "bonus siblings", Brach Amos and Brianna Drake; two nephews; special cousins, Tabitha and MacKenzie; aunts and uncles; fathers of her children, Brady Richardson and John Ferrell; and best friends, Madi and Kylarla.
