Kenneth Raymond Smith, son of Russell and Verle (Steven) Smith, was born April 8, 1948 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  He received his education in Emmetsburg, graduating from Emmetsburg High School.  In 1970 Ken entered the National Guard completing boot camp in Fort Leonard  Wood.  He served as a mechanic in the Guard until 1974.

After returning to Palo Alto County, Ken was employed at Jensvold Ford for several years as a mechanic.  He then opened Ken's Auto in Graettinger later expanding his business to include Golf Cars.  While living in Graettinger, Ken served as a City Councilman from 2001 until 2011.  He was a member of the Graettinger American Legion.

Ken owned and operated Ken's Auto and Golf in Emmetsburg for many years, retiring at the age of 71.   He loved golfing and played in many leagues in the area some of which included  Emerald Hills in Arnolds Park, Hillcrest Golf and Country Club in Graettinger, and 5-Island Golf Course in Emmetsburg.  Ken lived to play golf and he truly enjoyed selling and renting golf cars through his business.  He participated in countless tournaments and golf outings.

Ken also enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the Ford garage and Wild Rose Casino, where they had their own table.  He was a fan of anything chocolate and the richer the better.  Ken and Marsha both loved 50s and 60s music and they would drive around listening to the radio, guessing who the singer was for each song that came on.  They also enjoyed traveling together and spending time with their friends and family.  Ken always looked forward to spending time with BJay, Garrett and Matthew and especially loved going fishing with them and attending Garrett and Matthew's sporting events.

Ken was diagnosed with cancer in July 2018 and fought courageously for nearly three years.  He passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 73.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Verle Smith; Marsha's parents, Ernie and Mary Paulson; and a step son, Matthew Tindall.

He is survived by his partner of fourteen years, Marsha Duhn of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his son and daughter-in-law, BJay and Michelle Smith of Ringsted, Iowa; grandsons, Garrett and Matthew Smith of Ringsted, Iowa; step son, Nathan Tindall; Marsha's children and grandchildren, Dennie and Val Paulson, Kiersten and Sam Polaschek and Rachel Duhn and Bryce and Brody Paulson; as well as other relatives and countless friends.
