Kenneth L. Garrelts, son of Clarence "Dutch" and Anna Johanna (Habben) Garrelts, was born April 3, 1938 in Ayrshire, Iowa.  He received his education in Ayrshire, graduating from Silver Lake Consolidated School in 1956.

On April 4, 1959 Ken was united in marriage to Joann Williamson at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven, Iowa.  They were blessed with three children.

Ken farmed his entire life, raising cattle and hogs as well as grain farming.  He and Joann made their home near Ayrshire where they raised their family.  Ken's life was farming, whether he was buying and selling cattle and hogs, preparing the ground for planting or harvesting the crops.  Farm life was Ken's pastime.  He and Joann did enjoy nineteen winters in Arizona and they always looked forward to getting together with their family and friends.

Ken was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ayrshire for many years.  He also served as a board member for the Ayrshire Telephone Company for 18 years.  After retiring from the farm, Ken and Joann moved to Spencer where they made their home.

Ken passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 84.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dutch and Anna Garrelts; a brother and sister-in-law, Darrel and Sandy Garrelts; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gene and Peanuts Williamson, Luverne and Betty Williamson, Norman and Scharny Williamson and Bob and Lorraine Spurling.

He is survived by his wife, Joann of Spencer, Iowa; his children, Gary (Rita) Garrelts of Ayrshire, Iowa, Gregg (Donna) Garrelts of Ruthven, Iowa; Karla (Randal) McDowell of Victoria, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Ellie (Andrew), Andrew (Tiffani), Brady (Jenna), Bailee (Trent), Adam, Mary and Michael; a great granddaughter, Paisley; his brother, David (Joanne) Garrelts of Emmetsburg, Iowa; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Lou Williamson of Spencer, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
