Larry Sherman Winther, son of Eli and Minnie (Tramm) Winther, was born August 22, 1943, in Estherville, Iowa. He received his education in Jackson County school in Jackson, Minnesota.

Larry served in the United States Navy where he was stationed on the U.S.S. Forrestal and was honorably discharged in 1964.

On October 17, 1964 Larry was united in marriage to Sheila Rae Plumhoff at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimbleton, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children.

Larry owned and operated Winther Appliance Store for thirty five years. He then went to work for Roc Management and Orkin, later owning and operating L & S Pest Control until his retirement.

Larry was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Larry was very active in the V.F.W. and held various offices for many years. He also served as V.F.W. State Commander from 2012-2013.

Larry enjoyed golfing, bowling and riding his motorcycle. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He attended many of their sporting and school events they were involved in. He had the opportunity to take a V.F.W. cruise which was a big highlight in Larry's life.

Larry passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the Avera Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sheila in 2016; two grandchildren, Brittany Winther and Adam Updyke; and a brother, Russel Winther.

He is survived by his children, Lisa (Mike) Stuart of Knoxville, Iowa, LaChelle (Charlie) Anderson of Spencer, Iowa and Lance (Janelle) Winther of Spencer, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Nicole Stuart, Zachary (Stephanie) Stuart, Megan Stuart, Emily Stuart, Jarrod Winther, Alyssa Winther and Alexis Winther; five great grandchildren, Jayden, Talen, Peighton, Blakely and Pheobie Sue; sister, Connie (Michael) Tooman in New Castle, Wyoming; siter-in-law, Joann Winther of Jackson, Minnesota; as well as many other relatives and friends.
