Lena Clara Louise Truelsen, age 98 passed away the evening of January 9th at the Emmetsburg Care Center. Lena was born to John Methe and Hattie (Hacker) Methe on April 19, 1917 in Mallard, Iowa.
Lena graduated from Mallard High School, as did all four of her children, a fact of which she was very proud. On March 5th, 1936, Lena was united in marriage to Kenneth Truelsen. They were together until his passing one month shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Lena was happy to say that she had always lived within two miles from where she was born.
Lena's passions were her family and gardening. Her flowers were always beautiful and her garden tended to. She loved poetry and recited a poem of her mother's almost daily. Lena's faith in the Lord saw her through many trials in her life and kept her strong until the end.
Lena is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth; her son, John Truelsen; her daughter, Harriett (Truelsen) Laws; brother, Eldon Methe; and grandson, Spenser Baskerville.
Lena is survived by her son, Marlan (Jenese) Truelsen; daughter, Marlene (Robert) Joens; son-in-law, Lonnie Laws; her grandchildren, Jenet (Joe) Hattaway, Melinda Truelsen, Dave Joens, Sandy (Steve) Baskerville, Cindy (Mark) Hood, Kendra (Curtis) Weiss, and Kristina (Erik) Hulscher; her great grandchildren, Timothy, Dustin, Patricia, David, Lucas, Laura, Chris, Stephanie, Nathan, Sam, Taylor, Sawyer, Grant, Nicholas, Claire, Allison, and Joe; and great-great grandchildren, Carter and Andrew.
