Lorraine Ione (Graham) McNally, daughter of Clifford and Lois (Burger) Graham, was born August 7, 1948 at her parents' home in Ayrshire, Iowa. She attended Silver Lake Consolidated School and was very proud to be an Ayrshire Beaver. Lorrie graduated from high school in 1966. Following graduation, Lorrie began working at the Emmetsburg Newspaper.
On July 8, 1967, Lorrie was united in marriage to Charlie McNally and they had the joy of celebrating 54 years together. They were blessed with two sons, Chuck and Mike.
Lorrie was employed at the Sentinel Newspaper in Fairmont, Minnesota and then after moving to Wisconsin, she worked for Tecumseh Motor, in New Holstein, as a small motor piston pounder. Lorrie was the first woman to do this job and was always proud of the fact that "she kept the line moving." The guys never had to wait on her.
In 1976, Lorrie and Charlie moved to Emmetsburg and became partners in the Reit Bakery. In 1978 they bought the bakery, which at that time was located next to the theater. They moved to the south Broadway location in 1980 where the McNally Bakeshop remained until 2005 when Lorrie and Charlie retired. They served the community for 29 years in the bakery, hosting visiting politicians, community and family gatherings, as well as local patrons and those traveling through town. It was often one of the first stops for college students returning home for a visit. Everyone was greeted with a smile, along with their favorite donut, roll or pastry.
Lorrie was active in community enhancement by serving on the Chamber of Commerce, as a board member and also as president in 1980. She was instrumental in the development of the "Welcome to Emmetsburg" tourist board, initiated through the Chamber of Commerce. She was chairwoman of the Quasquicentennial steering committee in 1983 and she served on the Civil Service Board as Ombudsman. Lorrie started Breakfast with Santa and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. She was a sponsor of the Baby Crawl Competition and the Little Miss Shamrock Pageant. Lorrie was recognized for all of her volunteerism and promotion of Emmetsburg by being awarded the Chuck Hughes Citizen of the Year Award. She was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Following her retirement from the bakery, Lorrie worked at the Wild Rose Casino and Resort as hostess at the Robert Emmet Buffet. She also worked at Fareway until the COVID-19 pandemic occurred.
Lorrie was proud of her Irish heritage and entertained various groups traveling here from Ireland. They loved to congregate at the McNally Bakeshop. She was invited to Ireland by some of these individuals, that had become Lorrie's friends, and she took the opportunity to make three trips to Ireland. This was truly a highlight in her life. People visiting the McNally Bakeshop entered as strangers but left as McNally friends.
Lorrie passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Francis McNally; her parents, Clifford and Lois Graham; her brother, Mike Graham; and two sisters, Angela Graham in infancy and Kathy Bisenius.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie of Emmetsburg, Iowa; her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Chelsea McNally of Waverly, Iowa; their children, Patrick (Staci) McNally of Waverly, Iowa, Alexis (Justin) Kibbie of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Joey McNally of West Des Moines, Iowa and Tyler McNally of Waverly, Iowa; Mike's children, Molly and Cayden McNally and Ariana McNally all of Henderson, Kentucky; two great grandchildren, Myles McNally and Jax Kibbie; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; very special nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many, many friends.
