Louise M. Leuer, daughter of Oscar and Magdalen (Ludowese) Decker, was born September 12, 1934 in Hospers, Iowa. At the age of two, Louise's family moved to the family farm near Emmetsburg where she lived all but eleven years of her life. Louise was extremely proud of this. She began her education at Emmetsburg Catholic School where she completed grade school. Louise then attended St. Angela's Academy in Carroll, graduating in 1954.
On May 10, 1958 Louise was united in marriage to John Leuer at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They were blessed with seven children. John and Louise farmed near Emmetsburg all of their married life. Louise farmed right along with John and she was never afraid of hard work, always willing to do whatever job needed done. Louise's sense of humor was a joy to those around her and her contagious smile would brighten anyone's day. She became known as "Granny" to all who knew and loved her.
She was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Louise loved having her family around, especially when her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren visited her. She was truly a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In her later years, Louise enjoyed playing cards and working on puzzles.
Louise passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at her home near Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Magdalen Decker; her husband, John Leuer; sisters, Mary (Gene) Zitzlsperger, Ethel (Norman) Williams, Leola (Ray) Noreen, Delores (Roland) LaBrie, and Kathleen (Kenneth) Graesing; a brother, Vernon Decker; a nephew, Bill Noreen; and a niece Vera Peglow.
