Marguerite Elaine (Schulz) Brawley, daughter of Hans John and Leona (Felsing) Schulz was born June 12, 1938 and grew up on a farm near Laurens, Iowa. She graduated from Laurens Consolidated High School in 1956.
In Storm Lake, Marguerite began serving as a live-in child care provider and housekeeper for the children of Sarah and Percy Larson who had a hobby and ceramic shop. She was part of the family when the Larsons came to Emmetsburg. Here Marguerite met Dick Brawley. They were united in marriage on December 18, 1959 at Marguerite's mother's church in Garner, Iowa. They made their home in Emmetsburg and were the parents of one daughter, Connie.
Marguerite was a devoted wife, mother and a happy gardener throughout her life. Deciding to become homeowners in mid life, Marguerite set out into the working world to supplement their income. She began working at Joyce's Foodland serving customers for ten years. Then for the next eleven and a half years she was employed at Lakeside Lutheran Home serving the residents as one of the housekeepers.
In 1963 Marguerite and her family joined the fellowship of St. Paul Lutheran church where she remained a faithful and devoted member throughout the rest of her life. Her years of membership were for growing in faith, listening, studying, singing, teaching, and coming to know more fully the God of the Bible.
Marguerite passed away Monday, July 1, 2019 at her home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Leona Schulz; her husband, Dick in 2014; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Myrtle and Grover Livingston; two brothers, John and Philip Schulz.
