Martha Elizabeth Sweet, daughter of Joe L. and Minnie (Luzy) Sweet, was born January 31, 1941 in Webb, Iowa.  She received her education in Gillet Grove, graduating from high school in 1958.

Marty was a very talented seamstress working at Helen's Laundry and Cook's Cleaners doing tailoring work for them. She then began working at Hansen's Clothing.  After Hansen's went online, selling their clothing worldwide, Marty did all of the alterations that needed done.  She often picked up stacks and stacks of men's slacks to be shortened or altered and would have them completed and ready to ship the next morning.  After her retirement, Marty continued working out of her home, doing alterations for individuals in the area.

Marty looked forward to meeting her friends each morning at the Main Street Café for coffee.  She also enjoyed watching baseball games and cheering on her favorite team, the Minnesota Twins.  Marty and her sister, Evelyn loved going to the casino, having dinner there and visiting with friends.  Marty's nieces and nephews were all very special to her.  She spoiled each and every one of them.  She looked forward to their visits and being with her great nieces and nephews.  They meant the world to her.

Marty passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, at St. Luke's Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 83.   She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Minnie Sweet; three brothers, Leonard Sweet, Jim Sweet and Fred Sweet; sisters, Lucille Campbell, Ruth Ness and Evelyn Sweet; brother-in-law, Alfred Ness; and nephews Roger Ness and Curt Ness.

She is survived by her brother, Bill Sweet of Spencer, Iowa;  nieces and nephews, Justin Sweet (Heather) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Heather Killmer (Brad) of Spencer, Iowa, Aaron Sweet of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Scott Sweet of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Penelope Eaton of Spencer, Iowa, Russell Sweet (Misty) of Spencer, Iowa Tony Sweet (Lourdes) of Perry, Iowa, Lori Oviatt of Spencer, Iowa, Sharon Matthews (Leo) of Spencer, Iowa Kathie Mackie (Larry) of Phoenix, Arizona, other nieces and nephews; as well as many great nieces and nephews and friends.
