Martha Darlene Porter, daughter of Charles Porter and Bertha Board Porter, was born September 7, 1927 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She met her Savior, July 25th while at Accura Health in Bancroft, Iowa at the age of 94. She attended rural country school and Ottumwa High School, and also attended Open Bible College in Des Moines, taking a Christian Church Workers course. It was during this time that she was introduced to William Wood by his aunt who attended the church she attended in Des Moines. They were married September 12, 1948.
Shortly after their marriage, they moved to a farm near Cylinder, Iowa and farmed until their retirement in 1987. They bought a home in Emmetsburg and worked together in their lawn care business until Bill's death in 1997. In 2005, Martha moved to Maplewood Residence in Fairmont, Minnesota. In 2015, she moved to Stonebridge Assisted Living in Bancroft, Iowa where daughter, Nancy, worked as a nurse. In 2017, she moved into the adjoining nursing home where she remained until her death.
Martha was active in church activities her whole life. Serving her God was her highest priority. She was a member of the Emmetsburg Assembly of God where she taught Sunday school, led teen classes and activities, and was a member of the women's' group. Later in her life, she became a member of the Grace Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Nancy Peterson (Steven) of Swea City, Iowa, Linda Harshman (Dan) of Lone Rock, Iowa and Rebecca Mork (Richard) of San Antonio, Texas. Seven grandchildren: Scott (Abby) and Shaun (Jodi) Peterson of Rapid City, South Dakota; Kara (Andy) Long of Mankato, Minnesota; Krista Struecker of Lone Rock, Iowa; Danielle (Terrence) Johnson of Snyder, Colorado; Brent Mork of Puyallup, Washington and Adam Mork of San Diego, California. Nine great grandchildren: Ashley, Halle, Zachary, Isaiah and Gideon of Rapid City, South Dakota; Kaleb and Samantha of Mankato, Minnesota; James of Lone Rock, Iowa and Dylan of Oakdale, California. One half brother, Johnny Porter of Milwaukee, Oregon.
Preceding her in death: husband, William "Bill"; her parents and step mother; all six siblings; and a half brother and half sister.
Her generous and kind spirit was a blessing to many.
