Marvin Robert McAllister, son of Peter J. and Agnes H. (Carpenter) McAllister, was born March 2, 1940 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He began his education at St. Ellen's grade school in Emmetsburg and then attended Emmetsburg Catholic High School, graduating in 1958. Following graduation Marvin continued his education at Emmetsburg Junior College where he graduated in 1960.

On October 21, 1961 Marvin was united in marriage to Therese Kelly at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. They were blessed with three children. Marvin completed his Bachelor's Degree in Education, at Buena Vista College in 1969.

Marvin delivered milk for Lehmann's Dairy in Emmetsburg and then began his teaching career. He taught high school English in Malvern, Iowa for one year and then accepted a position in Clarion as their high school English teacher in 1969. Marvin remained at Clarion high school until his retirement in 2002.

Marvin was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids where he was a faithful and devoted member.

Family life and the activities surrounding family were very important to Marvin and he enjoyed every moment he was able to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved reading and watching sports of all kinds.

Marvin passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter J. and Agnes McAllister; a sister, Mary Lynn Hough; his grandparents; many aunts and uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his wife, Therese of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his children, Martha McAllister Gardner (Mike) of Elmhurst, Illinois, Lisa Tortora (Mike) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and David McAllister (Brenda) of Urbandale, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jack McAllister, Tom McAllister, Dan Tortora, Matthew Schlipper, Katie McAllister, Laura McAllister, Sarah Tortora and Rachel Tortora; a sister, Karen Siddall (Jim) of Urbandale; brothers-in-law, Larry Kelly (Robin) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jim Kelly (Liz) of Chaska, Minnesota, Richard Kelly (Patty) of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Garold Hough of Algona, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Catherine Chrysler of Parker, Colorado and Rosemary Sackett (Ron) of Bloomington, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
