Mary Margaret (Hamilton) Clasing, daughter of William P. and Lorena B. (Riley) Hamilton, was born September 23, 1939 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Being the only girl in a family with seven boys, Mary learned how to be strong and have a free spirit. She certainly was not going to be left out of the fun and adventures that her brothers participated in. Mary began her education in Vernon Township #4 and completed 8th grade there. Mary then attended Emmetsburg High School, graduating in 1957.

On August 1, 1957, Mary began working at the Palo Alto County Treasurer's Office.
Mary was united in marriage to Dale Eugene Clasing on July 19, 1958 in Denver, Colorado. They were blessed with three children. Dale and Mary made their home near Ruthven. On November 7, 1978, Mary was elected Palo Alto County Recorder, taking office on January 1, 1979. She served in the County Recorder's capacity for twenty two years, retiring on December 31, 2001.

Mary was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg and a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Spencer, the area Snowmobile Club and Red Hat Society. Mary always enjoyed Thursday night dinners with her friends as well as celebrating birthdays and holidays with them.

Mary was an independent, hardworking and generous lady. She was always there for her family and friends supporting and encouraging them. Mary's love of politics, her skills at cooking and her ability to entertain family and friends were assets she passed on to each of her grandchildren. There was no project too big for Mary to undertake, whether it was constructing a piece of furniture, decorating her home or developing her beautiful gardens. Mary loved kids and animals. She had a giant Flemish rabbit, Smokin' Joe, Riley the parakeet and her beloved dogs, Chowder and Sadie. Throughout her life, she had all kinds of pets. Mary's contagious laugh and that feisty little twinkle in her eye will never be forgotten by anyone that knew her.

Mary passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, at Parc Hall in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lorena; her husband, Dale; brothers, Robert, Bill, Homer, Joe, Jim and Tom.

She is survived by her children, David Clasing (Deb) of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Colleen Tonderum (Mick) of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Cathleen Harpst of Fate, Texas; seven grandchildren, Cassady (Joe), Brandi, Katie, Michael, Emily (Luke), Jacob, and Hunter; eight great grandchildren; her brother, Richard "Pete" Hamilton (Nancy) of Waukee, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends
