Mary Margaret Rose Kirschbaum was born May 19, 1917 near Ruthven, Iowa to Nick and Winifred (Radigan) Geelan. She began her education in country school and graduated from Silver Lake Consolidated High School in Ayrshire in 1934. Following high school Mary attended college for two years before returning to Palo Alto County where she began teaching at Washington Hill country school. She later accepted a teaching position at Silver Lake Consolidated School, teaching 7th and 8th grades.

On June 17, 1946 Mary was united in marriage to Robert Kirschbaum at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven, Iowa. To this union three children were born. After their marriage Mary and Robert began farming north of Ayrshire. In 1959 they purchased the grocery store in Ayrshire and operated the B & M Market until 1968.

Mary was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire where she was very active in Altar Society. Mary was involved in the church in many ways. She made sure there were flowers for the altar and around the church and saw that they were well cared for. She also pressed the linens and made sure that the priest and the nuns had plenty of food. The church was a vital part of Mary's life and she lived her faith each day.

Mary and Robert enjoyed playing golf at the Mallard Golf and Country Club with their friends.

Mary passed away, Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and her brothers, Michael in infancy, Francis, James, William, Raymond and George Geelan.

She is survived by her children, James Kirschbaum (Cindy) of Mankato, Minnesota, Margaret Zelenka (Jim) of North Miami, Florida, and Karen Brodersen (Ron) of Ayrshire, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Angela Brozak (Landis), Lisa Hirtzinger (Scott), Jeff Kirschbaum (Kate), Steven Zelenka (Maria), Cari Wolfson, Sara Collins (Adam), and Lora Fernandez (Jose); thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
