Mary Katherine "Kathie" Moran, daughter of  Fred and Ann (Murphy) Engelman, was born May 25, 1931, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She grew up near Mallard, Iowa with her mother, father, and very close cousin, Mary Hilton, who was like a sister. She started her education in country school, later going to St. Mary's Parochial School in Mallard, graduating in 1949.  She continued her education at St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where she received her practical training at St. Joseph Hospital.  After completing her nurse's training in 1952, Kathie  went to work at the Catholic Hospital in Dubuque.  She then returned to Palo Alto County and accepted a position as a Registered Nurse at the Palo Alto County Hospital where she met her future husband.

On October 13, 1956, Kathie was united in marriage to Marvin Patrick Moran at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  They were blessed with four children. Kathie stayed at home to help work on the farm and  raise their children.

Kathie was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Graettinger, Iowa and served as part of the ladies' aid. She also attended nurse's coffee club where she enjoyed getting together with her friends. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, reading, watching the game show network, cooking for her family, and spending time with her grandchildren.  Kathie loved nature, watching the squirrels, birds and the autumn leaves fall.

Kathie passed away Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Palo Alto County Hospital, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; a son, Pat Moran; and cousin, Mary Hilton.

She is survived by her children, Mike Moran (Nori Van Den Hurk) of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Tim Moran of Spencer, Iowa, and Joan Feldman (Don Halder) of Ruthven, Iowa; grandchildren,  Anika Van Den Hurk-Moran and her daughter, Annalee, Kendra Feldman (Doug Ashley), Tess Van Den Hurk-Moran, Autumn (Jordan) Muilenburg and her mother, Jennifer, and Sophie Moran and her mother, Shelly; a great granddaughter, Annalee; along with special friends, Jackie and Mike Meyer, Devona Trimble, and many other relatives and friends.
