Myrtle Louise Swanson, daughter of Harry and Genevieve (Holland) Friedley, was born February 9, 1931 in Waterloo, Iowa. She received her education in Gillett Grove, graduating in 1948. Following high school Myrt began working for John Swanson as a house keeper and that is where she met, fell in love and married John's son, Rodney.

They were married on February 26, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Myrt and Rodney were blessed with four daughters. They made their home on Twin Oaks Farms, southwest of Ayrshire.

Myrt worked hard helping Rodney farm for many years. She was also employed as a bank teller at the Palo Alto County State Bank in Ayrshire for fifteen years.

While living in Ayrshire, Myrt was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in church circle and sang in the choir. She enjoyed playing golf and participated in ladies golf league at the Mallard golf course.

Myrt and Rodney enjoyed traveling, seeing nearly every state in the United States. They often went on the R.E.C. trips and wintered in Florida, Texas, California, and Arizona. Myrt was an amazing cook. She made cooking an art by making each recipe her own. Myrt also loved planting flowers and gardening at her home on the farm. Above all else, Myrt loved spending time with family.

Myrt and Rodney moved to Spirit Lake in 1989, after retiring from farming. They enjoyed the Lakes area, spending time with their friends and family.

Myrt passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Avera Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa, at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Genevieve Friedley; her husband, Rodney in 2017; two daughters, Jana Sierck in 1991 and Rhonda Wenck in 2022; and two sisters, Nancy Resh and JoAnn Ulmann.

She is survived by two daughters, Jill (Jim) Weerheim of Milford, Iowa and Kyla (Joel) Berkland of Woodstock, Illinois; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Bobbie Davis of Glendale, Arizona; as well as many other relatives and friends.
