Nancy was born January 4, 1949, the first child to Merle and Leona (Oleson) Flint. As a baby, the soft spot on Nancy's head closed up too quickly causing her to have a special disability that would affect her speech and walking for the rest of her life. Her disability never deterred Nancy's zest for life.

Merle and Leona's second child, Connie was born two years later on the same day as Nancy. Because of this Nancy and Connie have always shared a special bond. Connie taught Nancy many skills that would be useful throughout her life.

Merle and Leona cared for Nancy in their home until they were 80 years old. They were wonderful loving and caring parents. As difficult as it was to let Nancy leave home she moved to Echo Assisted living in 2000 where she adapted well. Her family appreciates all of the compassion and care shown to Nancy while living there.

In 2013 Nancy moved to Branson, Missouri to be closer to her sister Becky. The experience of her first airplane flight was priceless. She loved seeing the other big airplanes take off. We all take for granted the luxuries we enjoy and the freedom to do what we want but these simple pleasures were a big deal for Nancy.

Nancy had a special way of expressing herself.   She loved anyone who paid attention to her and made her story known even if all of her words weren't understandable.

She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, getting a permanent, petting a dog, having visitors, decorating her room for a holiday, playing a game, giving hugs, eating good food and especially drinking what she wanted most...pop.

Holidays have always been special to Nancy. Christmas was her favorite holiday because she got boxes full of things. She loved making you aware that Santa was coming by making a mustache with her hands.

Nancy loved a party, especially when it was for her. She looked forward to her big birthday parties, which we all will miss but surely her and God are having a big party.

Everyone knew Nancy loved pigs. In Grandpa's barn at the fair, Nancy got to hold a squealing baby pig and even gave it a kiss. She could hardly wait to get to the Clay County fair each year, where the first stop had to be the pig barn. She would put her hands in the pen to pet them and would then put her finger in their nose which caused her to giggle with delight. We all have our favorite fair food and Nancy selected her favorites by pointing out the junk food that delighted her most and would then respond with "yum".

Nancy moved to Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg in December 2015. She won the hearts of everyone there and they spoiled her. Their loving kindness was amazing and will never be forgotten. They will surely miss Nancy's endless chatter and infectious personality.

Nancy had an appreciation for life that others should model. She shared so much joy and her smiles made everyone feel good. Spending time with Nancy was a reward worth more than any pleasure that money could buy. Nancy's kisses, a simple "thank you" or the answer of "I know" made your heart overflow. She leaves us all with her smile, her happy attitude and her own story.

Nancy passed away from kidney failure, Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 70. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Leona Flint; a sister, Kristie; brother-in-law, Tom Bortvit; and nephews, Thomas Bortvit and Joey Laake.
