Nina Joyce (Bergeson) Randa was born November 27, 1923 at Marathon, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Bertha (Finnestad) Bergeson.  She was baptized by Pastor Vern Giere of Emmetsburg Lutheran Church in 1924 and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew, Iowa on August 29, 1937 by Rev. A.K. Gaard.  Nina grew up on the farm and received her grade school education near Ringsted, Iowa in country school.  She graduated from Fenton High School in 1941.

On March 11, 1943 Nina was united in marriage to Elmer A. Randa.  Following their marriage they lived on the Randa farm near Cylinder, Iowa for fifty eight years.  To this union three sons were born: Kerry Lynn, Alan Dean and Dale Eugene.  The couple moved to Fenton on August 26, 2001.

Nina was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew where she held various offices in Circle and was past treasurer of Ladies Aid.  She was a past member of the Palo Alto County Hospital Auxiliary and Freedom Township Club.  She volunteered for many years at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.

Nina worked at Berkley's in Emmetsburg for several years and later did wallpapering and painting for thirteen years.  She enjoyed golfing, fishing, doing crafts,  gardening and refinishing antique furniture.  Nina was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing, especially making quilts for all of her grandchildren.  She also liked baking, making Kringla which was one of her favorite and playing the harmonica.  She was involved in putting together genealogy of her family.  Nina enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado to visit her sons and their families which were a very important part of her life.

Nina passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 97.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents, Edward and Bertha Bergeson; six brothers; and three sisters.  She was the ninth child and that is how she got the name, Nina.

She is survived by her sons, Kerry (LaRue), Alan (Char) and Dale; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Nina was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, thinking more of her family and others than herself.  She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
