Norma Jean Oppedal, daughter of Kally and Grace (Amick) Calvert, was born February18, 1929 at her family's home, north of Dickens, Iowa. She received her education in Gillet Grove, graduating from Gillet Grove High School. Following high school Norma was employed at Browns Shoe Store and Bjornstads both in Spencer. She would ride the train from Dickens into Spencer each day to work.
On May 1, 1948 Norma was united in marriage to Marvin L. Prichard at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. During their 30 years of marriage Norma and Marvin were nearly inseparable, farming together as well as enjoying Sunday drives. Marvin passed away in 1979.
Norma later married Dale E. Oppedal on January 10, 1981. Farming was a way of life for Norma. She was a very hard worker and helped with all aspects of farming. This last fall, Norma still took lunch out to Kelly and the farmers while they were harvesting. She still liked to drive through the country side checking crops and her farm ground.
Norma and Dale enjoyed golfing together and wintering in Texas. Norma entered area golf tournaments and was always ready for a round of golf with her friends or to play a game of Scrabble. Norma also enjoyed sewing. Family was very important to Norma and she cherished the time that she could spend with nieces and nephews. The family will remember Norma's passions in her life which were farming, family, golf, Scrabble and anything including potatoes! Norma and Dale enjoyed 40 years of marriage together.
Norma passed away Monday, December 9, 2024 at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kally and Grace Calvert; her husbands, Marvin and Dale; a sister, Margaret Miner; and a niece June Nixon (Roger).
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Dwight Miner (Niki), Kelly Miner, Jean Tripp and Jane Snyder (Bart); great nieces and nephews, Carrie, Cara, Melody, Aaron, Josh, Brandon, Tod, Amy, Lynk, Lindey, Abby, Melissa, Amanda, Katelyn, Lisa and Calvin; and many great-great nieces and nephews.
