Patricia Rae Horst was born April 26, 1953 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of Catherine (Weir) Studer and Martin Studer. Pat grew up in Emmetsburg, Iowa and attended school at St. Mary's Catholic School and Emmetsburg High School. As a girl, Patty loved horses and liked to ride and show her riding skills at local county fair competitions. Her favorite horse was Queenie and they spent hours together enjoying riding in the freedom of the rural countryside.

On February 19, 1971 she married the love of her life, Galen (Trigger) Horst. Pat and Trigger lived in Ruthven, Iowa and raised their children Christopher, Dustin and Molly in that community. Pat and Trigger loved living in Ruthven with members of their extended family and many, many friends.

Pat worked at Emmetsburg Care Center for a number of years and then at SNC Manufacturing in Emmetsburg. One of her favorite places of employment was Kathleen's Care. She was proud that her love for helping others carried on to her daughter. She was a volunteer EMT for the Ruthven ambulance service until disability curtailed many of her activities.  Patricia was known and loved by so many in the Ruthven community. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren's school events, community events and visiting over coffee. She was a constant companion to Trigger whether it was hitch-hiking to Denver to see Aunt Viv and Uncle John or taking care of the campgrounds at Lost Island. They were inseparable.

She was a wonderful mother. She gave all her children the guidance that they needed to live their own life, whether it be a hug or a come to Jesus meeting as she called them. Her EMT training came in handy while raising her children. She was never fazed by anything that they threw at her. She handled Dusty putting a pencil in Dewy's eye with ease, not to forget a few years later when Molly put a screwdriver in his same eye. She filled their lives with joy. Always making sure there were stories being told and songs being sung or even a water fight in the kitchen that ended with eggs being thrown. She never failed to keep everyone entertained and loved.

Even though she struggled with health issues, Patty always made an effort to be present with family and friends and enjoyed life with grace and humor. She was a determined woman and fought to stay with her family for as long as possible. Patricia passed away at home surrounded by family on August 21, 2021.

She is survived by her children Christopher (Heidi), Dustin (Melissa), and Molly Kay (Kendal), Brother Michael Studer, sister Mary Kay (Mike) and brother Martin Studer, Uncle Ray (Shirley) Weir grandchildren Autumn, Austin, Shaylee, Joe, Kiylee, Kailyn, Lily, Emma & Oona. Great grandchildren Leighton, Syllus, and Kamryn, Lisa, Kiley and Emmery, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Martin Studer and mother Catherine Weir Studer, her brother Tim,  her mother-in-law Wanda and father-in-law Leighton Horst, her daughter Katie and her grandson Jacob and her husband and lifetime companion Trigger.
